We wanted to send out our thanks to everyone that participated in our recent (and annual) fundraising initiative for our spotlight charity, Wigs For Kids BC!
Our Taco eating contest was held on June 27th, and we had a ton of people watching in person as well as on our Facebook live feed! The event was a massive success, with approximately 100K raised! 100% of the proceeds goes to Wigs For Kids BC! That number also included the proceeds from the massive silent auction that ran for a few weeks online, leading up to the event, and the competitors fundraising pages, along with your personal donations!
This is our 2nd annual competition, and last year (our pilot year) was really just for fun. This idea was birthed from the lack of fun taking place during covid and we just wanted to do something to make people smile for a bit to forget about the weight of the current world climate. So turning this into a fundraiser in year two (which will continue to be an annual fundraiser from here on out) and to have this event be one of the largest grossing fundraisers that Wigs For Kids BC has ever done, is truly amazing. So, thank you, if you donated, ate tacos, bought something or bid on things from the silent auction, told a friend, showed up, or watched online. We truly appreciate you.
Our winner, Thomas Chang (a Steveston resident and a Little Mexico Cantina regular) ate 25 tacos, which beat our last year’s winner by 8 tacos! That’s a lot of tacos!

Congrats to Thomas! Plus a HUGE thank you to Scotty from the Little Mexico Cantina for hosting us and providing the food and drinks, along with Bev Friesen from Wigs For Kids BC for pulling together the most amazing silent auction items, and to Mike Smith for dropping the beats that the contestants ate to!
We also want to thank each and every contestant that committed to not only eating in the competition but also fundraising on their individual pages.
What a success, and we cant wait to do it again next year. If you or someone you know is interested in competing next year, be in touch!
