Warm Clothing Drive 2023 – Richmond Emergency Shelter Relief

Richmond’s homeless count to date is estimated at over 300 people, and it’s only growing higher.  The shelter is currently the only option for homeless people in Richmond to escape from a cold winter’s night and a chance to get some sleep, a hot meal, and a reprieve from the elements.  It offers safety and creates dignity for those who access it.  One of the unique features of our city’s local shelter is the separation option for men and women.  The shelter offers a wing for women to sleep, eat, and relax separately if they so choose.  We took a tour of the facility recently and were surprised at how large it was and were impressed with how it’s being operated.  The facility is very professional, clean, orderly, and inviting.  The staff on-site during our visit were warm, friendly, and supportive of our efforts to host a clothing drive for them this winter.

The emergency shelter offers daily meals, with dinner being the most attended.  They offer warm meals with wholesome ingredients.  While funding is provided for food, there is a gap in providing clothing and toiletry necessities to its visitors.

This year for World Kindness Day, the Dinnell Real Estate Group is going to be organizing a clothing drive to help fill that gap this winter.

We will be picking up items to donate right from the comfort of your home and dropping them off at the shelter.  Pick-up dates will run the week of November 12-18th

The following items are requested for this clothing drive:

Winter Coats & boots

Toques, scarves, gloves, and mitts

New socks, underwear, and long johns (thermal underwear)

Blankets

Layering pants (ski-style pants)

Hoodies and warm sweaters

New toiletries (razors, shaving cream, toothpaste, toothbrush, brushes, face wipes, Polysporin, ChapStick, lotion, nail file, clippers, Q-tips).

Any donation of these items is greatly appreciated by the local Richmond Emergency Shelter management.

For pick-up coordination email info@dinnell.ca to book your spot and confirm your items
